F Is For Family, is the Netflix original which follows a very nuclear family in the 70's.

A cartoon that reminded me of That's 70's Show but less family friendly.

The series paints quite a realistic picture of life in the 70's. It doesn't shy away from the domestic issues, general life dissatisfaction or terrible father/child relationships. It also seems to quite accurately depict living in the 70's as an American too - at least from what I know as a British person.

The script carries some great quotes and smart writing. It's quite abrasive at times but it manages to do it in a not totally offensive way. It's the type of language that will go down with the baby-boomer generation, as they can probably relate to it more.

Visually, the way they captured the older cartoon style was a good idea. It makes it seem as if the series was almost made back then. The details were on-point too, from the decorations to the town they live in, it all seemed in place.

The opening sequence immediately stands out. It's a very creative and visual way of telling you the main character, Frank's, life story without verbally saying. It's very easily one of the better credit sequences out there.

It's considerably not a show for everyone and it didn't offer anything new. For me, as someone who is neither white, suburban or was alive in the 70's, I didn't connect with the show. Some could say it's an insight into the past but nothing that isn't already known was shown. It felt like a cartoon version of a lot of sitcoms from the 90's.

Overall, F Is For Family was nothing special. I personally didn't find it very captivating and had forced myself to get through it. Struggling to identify it's target audience, I can't see a great future for this show but it did offer some good parts.
