Freaks and Geeks is the ultimate 90's show. It follows a group of high school kids as they face the daily pressures of being a teenager in the 90's.
I found this show like 3 years ago now? and it instantly became my favourite and whenever I'm feeling down I put this on. To this day, I still have no idea why they cancelled it after only 1 series. There couldn't be a more honest depiction of teenage life, especially in the 90's, out there.
The first thing that stands out to me is the star studded cast. Some of today's top comedy actors were born from this show and it's easy to see why. The humour is easily one of my favourite things that this show offers. It's a very natural comedy, the type of humour you have between a group of friends, full of personal jokes and that is what it feels like. As if you're hanging out with friends.
The characters are each so different but also very familiar. You can easily identify with each of them or match somebody you know to one of them. They're all very likeable characters and you kind of end up wishing you knew them in real life.

As for the story-lines, it couldn't get much better. The show focuses on real topics that actually do affect teenagers such as, parents divorcing and smoking weed. But, what this show does differently is that it doesn't sugarcoat it. It gives the audience a very honest portrayal of these situations and topics which is why the show has such a cult following.
This is a show that is anything but generic. It's fairly rare to see a high school based show that doesn't follow the typical set-up but Freaks and Geeks does something different. Through Freaks and Geeks we see the stoners and the normal kids, a side that doesn't get shown enough in shows today. I would honestly give this a show a solid 10. From the story-line and the characters to the script and the fashion. Freaks and Geeks is pretty flawless and if you haven't already watched it, I would very, very highly recommend doing so.
