The Way, Way Back is the story of a teenage boy, Duncan, who goes with his mother to stay at her new boyfriends summer house. Whilst being an angsty teenager and hating everyone around him, he goes off and earns himself a job at the nearby water-park where he meets Owen.

At first, I wasn't really about this film, then it became fairly amusing. Although it is essentially a drama, the feel-good and comedic elements definitely stood out more. It reminded me a lot of the film Adventureland.

The story-line definitely made you feel a lot of emotions at times - mostly anger towards the mothers new boyfriend - but overall it wasn't anything new. It was a pretty typical plot with the acting being overall average, with a few exceptions.

The cinematography was actually rather beautiful. Being set by the beach, the lighting and locations were natural appealing but the colours provided and produced were what I recognised most. There were definitely some great shots in there and it made the summer imagery have that bit more impact.

As a whole, this film was pretty average but it's definitely a good film to watch on a summers night when you're bored with friends. It gets you feeling something and also makes you laugh whilst making you want to go out and have a summer adventure yourself.
