The Incredible Jessica James follows a newly single playwright and theatre lover as she embarks on dating meeting recently divorced Boone (Chris O'Dowd).

Like most of Netflix's latest releases The Incredible Jessica James stems from The Daily Show correspondent, Jessica Williams who creates an unremarkable film with no real plot in what should have been a TV series rather than a 83 minute film.

With no real arc, it's hard to engage with the main character who although is likeable seems to be very wishy-washy. Williams does manage to create a great atmosphere in her character but the character itself is weak, with no direction or reasoning. Her love for theatre is the main premise of the 'film' yet we see no conclusion to this.

Her relationship with ex-boyfriend Damon (Lakeith Stanfield) is one of the more interesting stories. The juxtaposition between real life and Jame's dream sequences could have been explored more as it held an unique story of life after a breakup and that communication or lack of with your ex. Perhaps going further down this path would've led to a more substantial watch.

Chris O'Dowd who always manages to play rich divorced man (CC: Girls Season Two) was the best thing about the... 'film'. His budding relationship with James comes off as very authentic and his character seems to be the only real one even though he may be the most lost.

The Incredible Jessica James was much like most films and shows out today, filled with meaningless life lessons and not much else. Not awful but far from great.
